The Importance of Consistent Communication throughout the Recruitment Process

With any headhunt we take on here at Collingwood, one thing that we will always ensure is a constant throughout is communication with candidates that are in the interview process. Efficient communication not only has a positive impact on the employer brand but also proves crucial in the attraction and retention of top talent. In this article, we explore the reasons why maintaining regular contact with candidates throughout the recruitment process is hugely important for the outcome of the headhunt.

Increase in candidate engagement and interest

Frequent communication ensures candidates remain actively involved and interested in the position. It shows that both the company and the headhunter value the time and effort of the candidate in the process. This engagement is crucial in attracting high-calibre individuals who are more likely to be enthusiastic and committed to the role if they feel valued from the beginning. Without this, it can lead to candidates potentially walking away from the position as they don’t feel they aren’t wanted, or applying for other roles and are no longer interested in yours.

Allows for a positive candidate experience

A positive candidate experience is a key factor in attracting and retaining top talent. The recruitment process is often a candidate's first interaction with the company, and this experience shapes their perception of the organisation. Regular communication, including prompt responses to inquiries and updates on the recruitment timeline, contributes to a positive candidate experience. Even if a candidate is not selected, ensuring that the experience they receive is a positive one will likely have a long-lasting effect on them and potentially encourage them to apply for other roles in the future. 

This is something I have seen first hand in my time here at Collingwood, with certain candidates not being right for a particular position but due to the experience we provided, they were willing to discuss another role with myself in the future that they were successfully placed in.

Reduces candidate anxiety and uncertainty

Looking for a new role can be a stressful experience for most candidates. Uncertainty about the status of their application can lead to anxiety and frustration. Consistent communication helps alleviate these concerns by keeping candidates informed about the progress of their application. On top of this, if candidates feel they have been forgotten about, they may look for opportunities elsewhere and may withdraw from yours. 

Builds a positive employer brand

Consistent communication with candidates contributes significantly to building a positive employer brand. When candidates receive timely updates and feedback, it creates a favorable impression of the organisation. As we mentioned previously about candidate experience, even when a candidate is not selected, the same applies here. You want all candidates to still have positive things to say about your process despite the outcome, and as a result, they may encourage others to apply in the future. As most headhunters will operate in specific sectors/industries, it is likely they will target certain companies for a lot of their roles. You don’t want people within a certain business receiving a bad experience and as such potentially putting off colleagues to even engage with you in the first place.

In conclusion, maintaining consistent communication with candidates throughout the recruitment process is hugely important to ensure a successful outcome, not just for now but for future positions/headhunts. It builds a positive employer brand, enhances candidate engagement, reduces anxiety, and allows for a positive candidate experience.
