Care Operations Director - The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution
Collingwood were approached by The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI), alongside a number of other executive search consultancies, to evaluate if we could assist with their requirement for a new Care Operations Director.
The Client
Following an extremely enjoyable and constructive meeting with the RMBI’s Chief Executive and Human Resources Director, Collingwood were delighted to be chosen to partner the organisation. The RMBI summarised their reasoning;
“I found you to be responsive and professional when we first spoke and I appreciated the information you provided in advance of our meeting.
At the meeting, you both came across as highly professional individuals with the gravitas I would expect to work at this level assignment. One of my criteria is to assess the way consultants come across to me as a client but also if I were a candidate being encouraged to consider a move to a new organisation.
Your questions and understanding of our requirements was very good and the approach you take in meeting face-to-face with candidates is standard – not something it would seem that all others do”
The Challenge
Caring has been a way of life since 1842 for the RMBI, a charitable healthcare organisation based in the UK. Their ethos is centred on a clear characteristic: a passion to deliver exceptional patient care by adopting a true person-centred approach.
As a key leadership post, the Care Operations Director would have full responsibility for the operational delivery of all care services.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this post was a business critical, board level position.
The Solution
In depth meetings were held with the RMBI to fully qualify both the technical and behavioural attributes the incumbent would need to possess. A particular focus were the personal characteristics required, as cultural alignment to the RMBI’s ethos was an absolute requisite.
Given our extensive understanding of the care sector marketplace and a strong network of senior operators within elderly care, a tight but highly targeted group of approximately 30 individuals were identified.
Following rigorous screening, interview & assessment, four candidates were shortlisted to the client.
The Outcome
Given the depth of pre-assessment, the RMBI undertook a single interview stage. This comprised of two elements led by Board and trustee members of the organisation.
To add to their own appraisal, the RMBI were aided by comprehensive interview notes & behavioural profiling analysis provided by Collingwood.
After evaluating the candidate’s performance and, crucially, fit for the business a first time, a unanimous decision was made to appoint.
