Marketing Director - Medical Design & Manufacturing Business
The Client
A North-West based subsidiary of a global pioneering medical design and manufacturing business required a Marketing Director to join their senior management team following a recent internal promotion. With high employee retention rate and a company recognised for the engagement and personal growth of its employees, they were keen to recruit someone “out of sector” to add dynamism and a fresh perspective.
The Business Challenge
The company have a clear vision – to break down barriers and change people’s lives. In order to deliver this vision, their people are at the heart of what they do. The business had been trying to recruit for several months with minimal success, so having a retained partnership was a new concept for them. Collaborating with Collingwood we spent the time to truly understand their business, their people, their vision and values to ensure all the shortlisted candidates were culturally aligned and the right “fit” for their fast paced and dynamic culture.
The Role
The very successful and profitable business with a fantastic reputation for innovation and quality sought a Marketing Director with a passionate and entrepreneurial flair. They were looking for someone who could inspire and lead a great team, as well as strongly influence the strategic direction of this business. They wanted someone with a mix of commercial acumen to accelerate the profitable growth of the business, trade marketing experience and someone who could build collaborative partnerships with the sales teams to marry the 2 departments together.
The Solution
Following an in-depth briefing with the client, a detailed understanding of the role and responsibilities was developed helping us outline the needs of the role in a comprehensive and detailed assignment specification. This, along with a clear picture of the preferred characteristics and experiences of individuals, enabled us to enter a targeted market to entice suitable individuals to engage in a conversation.
Following initial approaches to over 80 Marketing professionals working in aligned sectors, Collingwood arranged more formal face to face explorations with 7 individuals who we felt most closely matched the requirements of the role. Of these individuals, 4 were formally submitted to the Managing Director and Human Resources Director to interview at their offices along with full reports as to why we felt they would be successful in such a position. During this stage, all 4 candidates were invited back to present to an extended management team, and latterly the preferred candidate completed a Skype interview with the VPHRM of the Global group.
The Result
Following all the interviews, the experience, drive, ambition and personality traits of their preferred candidate resulted in a formal offer of employment being made. Collingwood presented the offer to a very thrilled and excited individual and a start date was promptly confirmed with our client. This assignment was completed in a period of 10 weeks, from initial commencement to the selected candidate accepting the offer.
